Obituary for David Lambert Dougherty

David Lambert Dougherty
Celebration of Life for David Lambert Dougherty, age 58, of Enid will be Friday, December 30, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Enid Symphony Center. Visitation with family will be Thursday, December 29, 2016 from 6-7 pm at the funeral home. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Hom.

David was born December 29, 1957, in Enid to Domer Vincent and Treva Jean (Hibbs) Dougherty on their 11th wedding anniversary and passed away at his home on December 24, 2016.

David was a 1976 graduate of Enid High School and attended the University of Oklahoma studying geophysics.

The youngest of six children, he was the only one to play a band instrument instead of strings. At Enid High, David played French Horn in the Big Blue Band, was in the Valiant Knights Drum and Bugle Corps and more recently was a member of the Enid Community Band.

For a while David tried long-haul trucking for both Hahn Truck Lines and J. B. Hunt. He then returned to Enid and worked at The Dougherty Press. After the family closed their printing shop, David went to work as site manager for the Enid Symphony Center, a position he held until his death.

David had been in the Enid Kiwanis Club and loved operating the Kiwanitrain. He was a member of Garfield Masonic Lodge 501 and the Enid Symphony Auxiliary.

A project for which David was very proud was relaying the brick borders around the flower beds in the Dillingham Gardens in Government Springs Park. Recently he received a “Preserving Our Conference” award from Main Street Enid for all his work and help making Oklahoma’s 28th Annual Statewide Preservation Conference a success.

David was preceded by his parents, and a niece, Vickie Dougherty.

He leaves behind a daughter, Stephanie Nissley and husband Tim Maxwell of Austin, Texas; four sisters, Diana Thayer and husband David of Dallas, Texas, Daphne Dougherty of Fairmont, Oklahoma, Dortha Dougherty of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Denise Dougherty of Crescent, Oklahoma; one brother Domer Dougherty and wife Jennifer of Bartlesville, Oklahoma; two nephews, four great-nephews, five great-nieces and two great-great-nephews.

Memorials may be made in David’s name to the Enid Symphony Orchestra or to donor’s choice. Condolences may be made online at www.ladusauevans.com
