Elizabeth York

Elizabeth (Bette) Andrews York died Friday, July 26, 2013, at The Commons (United Methodist Home of Enid, OK). She was born November 10, 1913, in North Haven, CT, to David Burton and Clara Gesner Andrews. She lived in Hamden and North Haven, CT, and spent many wonderful summers in Madison, CT, before moving to Enid, OK, in 2006 to be near her daughter and grandchildren. Mrs. York attended Lasell Seminary (now Lasell College) in Massachusetts and was a member of the class of 1936 at Connecticut College for Women (now Connecticut College). She married Leslie R. York in 1940, and he predeceased her in 1992. During World War II, Mrs. York worked at High Standard as a Rockwell Tester and later was a receptionist at the T.A.D. Jones Co. in New Haven. She was a member of the Spring Glen Church, Hamden, CT., and was a former volunteer at New Haven Hospital (now Yale-New Haven Hospital) and the U.S. Hope Barn Sale.

Mrs. York is survived by her daughter, Sally York McMillion, and her husband, Robert E. Barron, of Enid, OK, and son, Randall W. York and wife Sharon of Sag Harbor, N.Y., as well as four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her twin sister, Eunice A. Brooks, and brothers Clarence F. Andrews and David B. Andrews, Jr., and two nieces and a nephew.

Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau- Evans Funeral Home of Enid, OK. There will be a viewing 8:00 am- 9:00 pm Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the funeral home. Private burial will be in North Haven Cemetery under the direction of Hawley Lincoln Memorial Funeral Services, New Haven, CT. The family wishes to thank the staffs of Grace Care Home Health, Trinity at The Commons, The United Methodist Home of Enid, and Hospice Circle of Love for their loving care and attention. Memorials in Bette's name may be made to any of these caregivers or to a charity of one's choice.
