Rex West

March 29, 1931 — September 6, 2014

A Service of Remembrance and Celebration of Life for Rex C. West, age 83 years, of Enid, Oklahoma, will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Tom LeGrand will officiate. Burial will follow in Del Norte Cemetery, Drummond, Oklahoma, with the United States Army providing military honors. He passed away September 6, 2014 in Rapid City, South Dakota. Visitation with the family will be Friday, September 12, 2014 from 6-7 pm at the funeral home.

Rex was born in Drummond, Oklahoma, March 29, 1931 to parents Earl West and Ida (Crites) West. He graduated from Enid High School in 1949. He attended Enid Business College and graduated in 1951, then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953. After the war he returned home to Enid and married Barbara Starr on April 1, 1955. He continued his education at Phillips University where he earned a BS in 1959. He pursued his graduate studies at Colorado State, the University of Missouri, and Kansas State Teachers College, receiving his Master’s degree from the University of Kansas. He taught Biology and Science at Topeka High School in Topeka, Kansas from 1959 to 1968. He worked for USV Pharmaceutical Co. for 2 years, then went to work for E.R. Squibb & Sons Pharmaceutical in January of 1970 in Garden City, Kansas, and later in Enid, until his retirement after 26 years of service. He loved hunting, fishing and college football.

Rex is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara, his parents, Earl & Ida West, his twin brother Ray, brother, Ed West, and sister, Bonnie Adams.

He is survived by his children, Matthew West, of Garden City, Kansas, Mark West of Rapid City, South Dakota, Wade West of Enid, Oklahoma, Rexann Sachs of Rapid City, South Dakota, Lori Baton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a brother, Sam West of Bismark, North Dakota.
