Austin Wallis

June 1, 1923 — October 15, 2012

Funeral service for Austin K. Wallis age 89 of Enid will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Wade Burleson officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Austin was the eldest of nine, born June 1, 1923 in Claremore, OK to Homer and Bertha Jones Wallis and passed away Monday, October 15, 2012 at St. Mary’s Regional Hospital after a brief illness. He was raised on a farm near Claremore, OK, where he attended and graduated from Sequoyah High School. He entered the U. S. Army and served during WW II.

Austin married the love of his life Iona Wallace on April 17, 1949 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Enid and she passed away on December 22, 2001 after 52 years of marriage. He was an optician for Reeser’s and Springs Optical for 37 years. He was longtime member of Bible Baptist Church, with the last 13 years as a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Austin and Iona enjoyed traveling in their Air Stream Trailer, especially to South Texas and Springfield, MO, where they made lots of friends.

Austin enjoyed the Lambs Flock Sunday School Class at Emmanuel Baptist Church and going to numerous activities. He had a fun loving personality and people enjoyed his company. The last ten years he enjoyed golfing with his son Kent many times each week. Dementia and Alzheimer’s over took him after the passing of his wife in 2001, however his attitude remained pleasant.

Austin is survived by his daughter Cheryl Suiter and her husband Mike, his son Kent Wallis and his wife Diane all of Enid, three grandchildren Shelly Olsen and husband Greg of Ponca City, Sarah Randall and husband Jack of Enid, and Zach Wallis of Muskogee, OK. two great grandchildren Taylor and Trystan Olsen, a sister Louise Jantzen of Arlington, TX, four brothers; Raymond, Hosea, and Marvin Wallis all of Claremore, Ok, Jerry Wallis of Moran, Kansas; step sisters, Arlene Jacobs and Irene Baummann; step-brothers, Lyle Yarnell, Loyal Yarnell and Wayne Yarnell.

He was preceded in death by parents, two brothers Mitchell and Richard, a sister Nadine; step-mother, Dorothy Wallis; step-sisters, Colleen Gullett and Doris Kelleyhan and step-brother, Leon Yarnell.

Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation- Alzheimer division with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
