A Celebration of Life service for William “Bill” Toews, age 95, of Enid, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014, at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church. Reverend Lynford Becker and Reverend Jay Risner will officiate. Burial will follow at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August, 26, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Bill was born November 27, 1918 to parents Abraham Toews and Agnes (Benke) Toews in Enid, OK and died August 22, 2014 in Enid, OK. He spent his entire life farming in the Enid and Kremlin area. He married Helena M. Janzen, November 18, 1944, while on leave during his service in the United States Army during WWII. He was stationed in the Philippines and post-war Japan. Bill and Helena were active in the church and the community. Helena was a public school teacher, and Bill served on the Kremlin School Board, Kremlin Co-Op, Garfield County Election Board, and Kremlin Lions Club. They were members of the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church, going back to the days of the North Church. Bill and Helena served the church in various capacities including the annual MCC Sale. He loved singing in the Men’s Chorus. They celebrated 68 years of marriage before Helena’s passing in October, 2012.
Survivors include three sons, Dennis Toews and wife Susan, of San Antonio, TX, Ellis Toews of Edmond, and Eldon Toews of Lee’s Summit, MO; daughter, Janice Ilsley and husband Jay of Claremont, CA; five grandchildren, Clair, Lauren, Evan, Spencer, John, and a host of other friends and family.
Memorials may be made to Enid Mennonite Brethren Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
