Funeral services for Virginia Mae (Wiebe) Toews, age 96, of Cary, Illinois, formerly of Enid, will be 10 am, Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. Visitation will be 9-9:45 am before the service. Burial will be private under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Virginia was born August 24, 1927, in Gotebo, Oklahoma, to Henry and Anna (Brown) Wiebe, and died Saturday, September 23, 2023, in Cary, Illinois. She attended Surprise Grade School through the fourth grade and graduated from Gotebo High School in 1944. She attended Draughon’s Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. After graduating, she began a long career in office work, retiring in 1986. Places of employment included Enid Chamber of Commerce, Vance Air Force Base, and 14 years at the American Red Cross.
Virginia was baptized at age 10 and became a member of the Gotebo Mennonite Church. After marriage, she became a member of the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church. She was married to Edwin Toews on October 24, 1947. They raised their two daughters, Myra Ann and Lois June, on a farm west of Enid.
Virginia enjoyed reading, puzzles, various volunteer assignments and a long friendship with Arlene Ediger walking, talking, eating and sharing thoughts. She was a fastidious homemaker, a wonderful cook, and an excellent seamstress.
She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin in 2016, her parents, and four brothers, Walter, Jona, Leon, and Henry Jr. (Buddy). Surviving her are daughters Myra Ann Torabi, Tehran, Iran; Lois June Tweeten, Cary, Illinois; and grandchildren, Parker Tweeten, Cary, Illinois, and Clarice Tweeten, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Memorial contributions in Virginia’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Habitat for Humanity with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
The family would like to thank Three Oaks Assisted Living & Memory Care, Cary, Illinois, for providing Virginia with wonderful care the last seven years, as well as VITAS Hospice for their compassionate care in recent weeks.
