A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Sarah Alice Toews, 98, on Wednesday March 9, 2016, at 11:00 am at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Chapel with Rev. Al McVety and Rev. Jay Risner officiating. Burial will follow at Enid Mennonite Brethren Church Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Viewing will be Tuesday, March 8 with family present from 4 pm to 5 pm.
Sarah was born on February 12, 1918, in Hillsboro, Kansas to Isaac and Nettie Cornelson Wiebe. She went to be with the Lord on Friday, March 5, 2016, at Golden Oaks Skilled Nursing Facility.
On September 25, 1940, Sarah married Johnny R.Toews of Enid in Adams, OK. Together they farmed in the Enid and Kremlin area for many years. Sarah and Johnny lived in Kremlin for many years where they raised their family. They later moved to Enid and North Enid. Twelve years after Johnny's death, she moved to a cottage at Golden Oaks Village and remained at Golden Oaks Village until her death.
Sarah worked in the school cafeteria in Kremlin and Enid until her retirement. After that she served as a volunteer at Integris Bass Hospital for many years.
She enjoyed working side-by-side with her husband whether it was in farming, building houses, volunteering at the hospital, or serving as deacons at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church where she was a member. She and Johnny enjoyed traveling and she continued this after his death.
She was proceeded in death by her husband, Johnny; her parents, Isaac and Nettie Wiebe; brother Albert Wiebe; sisters, Esther Hamm, Bess Voth, Helen Hamm, and Mabel Toews.
Survivors are her daughter, Diana Wiens and husband Richard of San Jose, CA and JoAnn Rice and husband Sam of Hillsboro, TX; two grandchildren, Rick of Saratoga, CA and Mike of Fort Worth, TX; two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Mikey Wiens; one brother, Ernest Wiebe of Guymon, OK; sister-in-law Sophia Thesman of Kremlin and brother-in-law, Joel Toews of Enid; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be given in Sarah's name to Enid Mennonite Brethren Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the fund.
