Funeral services for George Toews age 99 of Enid will be 2 pm Tuesday at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church with Rev. Jay Risner and Rev. Al McVety officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:30 - 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
George was born March 21, 1915 in Henderson, NE to A. G. and Susanna Regier Toews and he passed away April 3, 2014 in the Golden Oaks Nursing Center.
George married Mabel Wiebe April 23, 1939 in Hooker, OK. George and Mabel celebrated 73 years of marriage. George enjoyed farming and ranching. George loved raising Quarter and Belgian Draft Horses and cattle. George and Mabel entertained many people with hayrack rides. George was a member of Enid Mennonite Brethren Church, American Quarter Horse Assn, Belgian Draft Horse Assn, and Oklahoma Draft Horse and Mule Assn.
On May 8, 2012 his wife Mabel passed away to be with her Lord and his son Ronald preceded him in death on July 10, 2011, sister Ella Weins, and brothers John R. and Calvin Toews.
George is survived by his son Wilferd and his wife Kay of Enid, daughter-in-law Neva Toews of Lucien, four grandchildren Curtis Toews and wife Pam, Mark Toews and wife DeNeal, Teresa Summers and husband Don, Rhonda Brittain and husband Walt, nine great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, sister Sophia Thesman, brother Joel Toews and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Golden Oaks Nursing Center’s Staff for the care given to George.
