James Taylor

Funeral services for James Taylor, age 76 will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church. Rev Keith Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. The casket will remain open until service time. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

James was born January 10, 1934 in Van Dyke, MI to Sidney and Eva Esther (Vest) and died January 25, 2010 at his home. He graduated from the Van Dyke High School and attended Bob Jones University and Detroit Bible College.

On August 25, 1956 he married Dolores Reed in Van Dyke, MI.

He served in several Baptist churches in Michigan, Arkansas and Oklahoma as pastor; and also served as an interim pastor. He served as minister of music, education and youth in several churches; he was an administrator of the Baptist Retirement center in Cleveland, OK for 10 years. In his early years he served as minister of music, sang first tenor with several colleges and church and association male quartets. He was active in the work of the Baptist Association having held offices of moderator, clerk, associational music director, youth director and camp director. He was active in ministerial alliances, often serving as president and was a member of the Terlton Valley Kiwanis Club, serving as club secretary. He became a member of First Baptist Church in Enid in 2001 and taught Adult VII

Sunday School Class, sang in the Senior Saints Choir, chaired or served on several and varied committees; chairman of “Senior Adult Prime Timers” and worked in Vacation Bible School. He volunteered with the membership campaign of the Denny Price YMCA for several years. He volunteered at Chisholm Elementary School and worked in the library for 8 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores, his son, Jim Taylor and wife Glyna; daughter, Karen Boardman and husband Rick; granddaughter, Alissa Taylor; sisters, Barbara Pedde and Jean Berry.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Sidney Earl Taylor.
