Virginia Tatro

A Celebration of Life for Virginia Ruth (Whitehead) Tatro, formerly of Enid, will be 10:00 am, Monday, June 13, 2022 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Reverend Kelsey Cobbs officiating. The family will lay Virginia to rest privately in Cherokee Cemetery. Funeral services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Virginia Ruth (Whitehead) Tatro passed away peacefully at home with her family on April 9th, 2022. Virginia was the fourth of five daughters, born January 4, 1934 to Arthur Clark and Elsie Irene (Glenn) Whitehead. She was excellent help on the farm, often sent to friends and neighbors to help with milking, herding cattle, or bringing in harvest. Virginia graduated from Driftwood High School in 1952, later attending college, taking classes in Psychology. She worked for many years as a nurse and physician’s assistant, bringing the same loving attitude to her patients that she did to her family.

She lived for some years in Major County, helping organize vendors and performers for the Major County Historical Society Threshing Bee, and contributing to community activities in Chester, Seiling, and Fairview. Friends and relatives would call on Virginia to care for them in times of need. She looked for beauty and joy everywhere and found it more often than not.

She loved nothing so much as her children and family, thrilled to gather with her sisters and their kids. She was a great cook and homemaker, creating an environment where company always felt welcome. So much of what Virginia did was in service to others. The hobbies she enjoyed were crafts she could give away to and share with those she loved: crocheted afghans, rugs, and dolls will be treasured by her family forever, as will the skills she passed on. Her kindness belied her fierce inner strength. It was the force of goodwill she directed towards anyone who needed it, and she imparted that loving strength to everyone she came in contact with. Virginia chose generosity and love over bitterness every time, a value those who love her will use to anchor their own lives, thinking of her, for years to come.

She leaves behind her younger sister, Jewell James, her two daughters, Sue Tatro and Joyce Hill, grandchildren, Eric, Jaynann, Julie, Christina, Marie, William, and Ginnie, seven great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and their children. She goes to join her parents, sisters, Helen, JoAnn, and Gladys, son, Mike Dumler, husband, Aubrey Tatro, and companion of many years, Nathan Donley.
