Funeral services for John A. Swanson age 79 of Enid will be 10 am Thursday at the Hillsdale Bible Church with Dr. Robert Courtney officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park
Cemetery under the directions of Ladusau- Evans Funeral Home.
John was born April 1, 1934 in Enid to Roland and Pearl Kelly Swanson and passed away Sunday morning, February 9, 2014 in Integris Bass Baptist Hospital. John was raised in the Hillsdale Community where he attended school and graduated from Hillsdale High School in 1953. John entered into the US Army on July 19, 1956 and was honorable discharged on July 18, 1962.
He married Treva L. Parker on April 7, 1957 in Wichita, KS. After his military duty he moved back to Enid in 1962 where he went to work for Ivan Douchkoff Sheet Metal for 4 years. He worked for Kemph-Munsinger Heating and Air for 18 years. He owned John’s Tin Shop for 13 years. He taught his apprentice Tim Choate the sheet metal trade. He went to work for Luckinbill, Inc. for 13 years retiring in 2002 due to ill health.
John was a member of Hillsdale Bible Church where he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1974. He was a faithful member. John loved the Hillsdale Community. He was a founding board member of the Hillsdale Christian School. He helped create the Saturday morning Coffee which has been going on for 35 years.
John is survived by his wife Treva, two sons; Gerry Swanson and wife Linda of Enid, David Swanson and wife Gineta of Ponca City, six grandchildren, Todd, Misty, Candi, Bonnie, Shelby, and John David, ten great grandchildren, a brother Glen Swanson and wife Tommye of Enid and sister Ellen Willson and husband Tommy of Enid, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Dorothy and granddaughter Amy.
Memorials may be made to Hillsdale Christian School with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
