Joe Martin Spurlock, aka Babe, Dad, Grandpa Joe, Joe Joe, and Coach passed away February 20, 2017 at home with his family by his side. Joe was born May 17, 1952 in Duncan, OK, to Herbert and Rachel (Lovelace) Spurlock. He graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1970 where he ran track and was quarterback for the Broken Bow Savages his Sophomore, Junior and Senior year.
Joe graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor’s in Secondary Mathematics and from Southern Nazarene University with a Master’s in Secondary Administration. Before starting his teaching career at Chisholm Schools in 1989, Joe worked in the grocery business in Weatherford before moving to Enid to open the Eastside United. He later worked for McCartney Food and Jumbo Foods.
Over the span of twenty-eight years as a Chisholm math teacher, Joe invested his life in the students as a coach in basketball, football, cross country and track. He also served Chisholm as Assistant Principal for a number of years and Athletic Director. Joe was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where he taught a Community Group and served on the Deacon Service Committee. His faith in Jesus was the foundation on which he lived his life. He married Melonee Sims on January 3, 2009.
Joe is survived by his wife, Melonee of the home, sons Cody and fiancé Stephani Yunker, Dusty and wife Melissa, daughters Eva Bartley and husband Jonathan, and Abbey Mueller and husband Matthew, fifteen grandchildren, sister Margaret Worthington and husband Charlie, brother Larry Spurlock and wife Linda.
Memorials may be made to Chisholm Athletic Club or Hospice Circle of Love with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Wade Burleson officiating. Cremation and services are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
