Funeral service for Lydia W. Sparkes age 100 of Garber will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber with Rev. Scott Ray officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Lydia was one of 15 born June 30, 1912 west of Kremlin to George and Marie W. Virgens Reim and passed away in Oklahoma City at the Integris Hospice House on January 12, 2013. She attended and graduated Pond Creek High School in 1932.
On April 9, 1939 she married J. Earl Sparkes in Enid and he passed away September 11, 1996.
She and Earl had several restaurants in Minnesota, Kansas, and Oklahoma. She was a World Book Encyclopedia representative from 1957 to 1990. They moved to Garber and bought the Dairy Boy in 1962 and operated it until 1972. She cleaned for the Long’s at their homes and business. She loved to go fishing and to quilt and sew. Due to her wonderful personality she never met a stranger. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber.
Survivors include a son Galen Sparkes and wife Vicki of Edmond, three daughters Jacqueline Sparkes of Edmond, Carolyn Bearden of Oklahoma City, and Marcelyn Sparkes and her companion Max Knowlton of Shawnee, 4 grandchildren, Justin and wife Elisa, Brandon and wife Lindsay, Piper, and Meri, 4 great grandchildren, Victoria, Galen, Bailey Ann, and Brody and a host of other family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers, and nine sisters.
