Funeral services for James (Jim) Madison Snapp age 85 of Enid will be 10 a.m. Tuesday March 8, 2011 at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Fred Jones officiating. Family will greet friends from 6-7pm Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Jim was born February 21, 1926 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada to Orlie Clarence Snapp and Carrie Belle Sellers and passed away Thursday evening at his home. He attended and graduated from Carmen High School.
Jim entered the U. S. Navy Reserve on June 1, 1944 and served aboard the ships LST580 & LST1080 and was honorably discharged on February 1, 1946. He married Wilda Elizabeth Bixler on April 6, 1951 in Enid and she passed away May 4, 2006.
He served as a scout leader from 1971-1976. He was an advisor to Explorer Post 10. He was with the Civil Air Patrol at Woodring Airport as 1st Lieutenant from 1983-1991. He worked at AAT Industrial Supply from 1965-1990 and owned and operated the business for 13 years with his wife Wilda. He retired on January 1, 1990.
He is survived by his son Glen Snapp and wife Jan of Enid, daughters Denise Henry and husband Scott of Hennessey, Donna Haymaker and husband Dirk of Hennessey, and Linda Clifton and husband Salathiel of North Carolina, 14 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and a sister Janice Little of Edmond, OK.
He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter Sylvia Long.
Jim loved to fly, loved to watch grandson, Connor play sports, built radio controlled airplanes, and enjoyed camping, and was very involved in family genealogy research. Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with Ladusau-Evans as custodian of the funds.
