A service of remembrance and celebration of life for James E. Smith will be held Tuesday Dec 22, 2014 at Temple Baptist Church in Enid at 10 AM. Pastor Kevin Strope will officiate. Military honors will be given by U.S Navy. Arraignments are under direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home
Jim was born April 21, 1922 in Maypearl, TX to Eli and Lena Mae Smith, and passed away peacefully on Dec 18, 2014 at the age of 92. He grew up in Ft. Worth, TX and joined the U.S. Navy in 1942 serving on the USS Murray in the Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Jim married Lucile Hawkins on June 20, 1946, in Ft. Worth, TX. He spent 36 years working for Pan American/Amoco/BP with stops in Ft. Worth, Lubbock, and Denver before retiring and moving to Enid. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Jim spent his free time with his family as a Scoutmaster, baseball coach, and camp cook. He enjoyed oil painting, golf, gardening, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Lucile, sons Kim and wife Gabriele and Kevin and wife Valorie, and four grandchildren, Tyler, Kelsey, Zac, and Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Carroll, Clifton, and Weldon.
Memorials may be made to Children’s Tumor Foundation for NF Research with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
