Dr. Irving Lee Smith passed away on January 1, 2011 at his home in Enid, OK.
He was born February 18, 1918 to David and Mathilda Schneider Smith in Cape
Girardeau, MO. He married Saleta Wentworth in September of 1942 – she
preceded him in death in 2001.
Dr. Smith received an undergraduate degree at Northwestern Oklahoma State
University in Alva, OK and then attended Perkins School of Theology at Southern
Methodist University in Dallas, TX. He later received an honorary Doctorate of
Divinity Degree from Perkins School of Theology.
Dr. Smith had many pastoral appointments in Oklahoma, including University
Methodist Church in Tulsa, First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, St. Luke’s
United Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, as well as District Superintendent of
the Oklahoma City and Enid Districts.
He is survived by his children: Marilyn Rudebock of Denver, CO; Lawson Smith
of Estes Park, CO; Roger Smith of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Elaine Shook of
Dallas, TX; brother, Warren Smith of Duncanville, TX; three grandchildren and
three great grandchildren.
A memorial service for Dr. Smith will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, January 15,
2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Enid. Rev. Grayson Lucky and D.S.
Gary Holdeman will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-
Evans Funeral Home.
