Robert George “Bob” Schomber; born January 16, 1937 in Bronx, New York; went to meet our Lord on January 29, 2012. Born to Albert J Schomber and Anna Frances (Keane) Schomber, he grew up in New York, Ft Smith, AR and Sallisaw, OK.
He met and married Christine I. Melrose in Madera, CA on November 27th 1957. From this union were born Debra Ayn (Joe Bob) Bates of Altus, OK; Dr. Paul Robert Schomber (Dr.Beth) of Springfield, VA; David Patrick (Julie) Schomber of Ringwood, OK; and Terri Lyn Hamlin of Enid, OK. He had two brothers, Al Schomber of Houston Texas and Martin Hill of San Diego, Ca. He is survived by his wife of the home, a brother, Martin, 4 children, 16 grand children (Melissa (Jared) Helton, Sarah (Justin) Wheeler, Jason (Melissa), Sean, Isaac, Joshua, Caleb, Gracee and Abigail Bates; Kieran and Orion Schomber; Connor, Trevor, and Zachary Schomber; and Hannah Esquivel and Hadley Hamlin), and 4 great grand children (Koby and Kelby Bates; Jace and Wyatt Helton).
Bob joined the Air Force in 1955, spending the next 22 years serving his country in assignments to Goose Bay, Labrador; Toul Rosier, France; Keflavik, Iceland; and Thailand as well as several US bases. He continued serving his country for the next 28 years as a supply supervisor for various support contactors at Vance AFB.
He had an absolute passion for playing basketball, going to 3 consecutive state tournaments for Sallisaw High School. He was an avid John Wayne fan and had an extensive collection of memorabilia.
Bob was an active member of Garland Road Baptist Church where he served as deacon. His greatest joy was spending time with both his immediate and church family. Visitation will be at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, 2800 North Van Buren from 6 – 7 pm on Wednesday, 1 Feb. Services will be officiated by Dr. Greg Hook at Garland Road Baptist Church at 2002 N Garland Rd on Thursday, 2 Feb at 10:00 am with internment at Memorial Park Cemetery with full military honors.
