Leroy was born April 23, 1930 in New Braunfels, Texas to Otto and Laura (Jahns) Schneider, and passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2018 in Enid.

Leroy moved to San Antonio at the age of 13 years. He attended Harlandale High School graduating in 1948. Following high school, he joined the United States Navy and served one year active duty and seven years in the reserves. He retired from Kelly Air Force Base after 35 years of service. He joined the Prospect Hill Masonic Lodge in 1969.

Leroy married Shirley Howard on February 16, 1956 at St. John’s Methodist Church in San Antonio, Texas. They moved to Enid in 2007 where they made their permanent home. Leroy and Shirley celebrated 62 ½ years of marriage as of August this year.

Leroy is survived by his wife Shirley Schneider, of the home in Enid; two sons, Steven Schneider, and Howard Schneider, both of Nash, Ok; three grandchildren, Kenny Schneider and wife Lexy, of Enid; Bryan Schneider of Enid; granddaughter, Alicia Chavez and husband Americo, of Atascosa, TX; three great-grandchildren, Annika, Leroy, and Emma Chavez.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Laura Schneider; daughter Denise Estrada; grandsons Coby and Casey Schneider; in-laws, Eldon L. (Shorty) and Pearl Howard.

Leroy enjoyed many hobbies; he loved to play poker, fishing on the Texas coast, gardening, and traveling. He was a big fan of Clive Cussler western novels, and also many western movies.

He attended Central Christian Church and was a member of the Enid Moose Lodge until his illness prevented him from attending. He liked talking to people about many various subjects; Leroy never met a stranger.

Leroy’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Sara Matousek, and her staff; as well as the nurses and staff of Ross Hospice. Our family will be forever grateful to Kim Hall, who showed such kindness and love for Leroy throughout his illness.

Memorials in Leroy’s name may be made to the Enid SPCA with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
