Naomi Schmidt

January 3, 1930 — February 16, 2014

Funeral services for Naomi Ruth Schmidt, age 84, of Enid will be 11:00 am Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Emmanuel Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Ted Kuschel officiating. Burial will follow at the Enid Mennonite Brethren Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Naomi passed away early Sunday, February 16, 2014 in The Commons Nursing Center.

Naomi was born January 3, 1930 in Isabella, OK to Theodore Roosevelt and Lydia Suderman Patzkowsky. She grew up on their farm near Isabella, OK. She graduated from Fairview High School in 1948 and was a member of FHA.

Naomi married Walter Schmidt on May 29, 1949 in Fairview, OK. She and Walter moved to Enid where they had three children, Richard Dean, Connie Jean and Robert Wayne. Naomi was a homemaker for most of her life, as well as, cleaning homes for other families for several years.

Naomi was a member of the Enid Mennonite Brethren Church for many years and then in the early 1970's, joined Emmanuel Baptist Church. She became a Christian as a child and her faith remained very important to her throughout her life. She prayed for her family and friends daily.

Naomi loved animals and took joy in the caring of animals throughout her life. As a child on the farm, she had dogs and cats. Then, as an adult in Enid, she raised many cats that she adored, to include Miss Kitty, Toby (her favorite), Smokey, Sylvester, and also, dogs Skipper, Sonny, Buddy, Sally, and Anne. (She loved Collies.) While in the nursing home, her granddaughters gave Naomi a realistic toy cat that also made cat noises which she loved. It kept her company in her final years.

Naomi had a sly, unique sense of humor. She made people laugh and smile with her dry, sometimes ornery comments. She enjoyed sewing and made dresses for Connie’s special events, and other clothes for the family.

Naomi was preceded in death by her husband, Walter who passed away October 4, 2002, and her brother, Raymond Patzkowsky who died March 29, 1994.

She is survived by her son, Richard and wife Tricia Schmidt, her daughter, Connie Vickers and husband Rick, and son Bob Schmidt and partner Kevin Koch, as well as, her grandchildren Jeff and Ryan Vickers, Isabelle and Rebecca Schmidt, and Megan Fredrickson, and her great grandchildren Kylie and Michael Fredrickson, all of whom she loved very much.

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
