Chester Ross

Funeral services for Chester A. Ross, 91, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 20, at the Central Christian Church in Enid, OK. Pastors John McLemore and Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery following the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral home.

Chester was born January 15, 1922, in Henryetta, Oklahoma, to Ashby G. and Annabelle (Hollis) Ross and died on September 17, 2013, in Enid. He finished high school at Henryetta High in 1941, and moved to Ocean Park, CA, in 1942, where he worked for Air Research Mfg., an aircraft factory. In October, 1942, he returned to Henryetta and enlisted in the U. S. Navy Reserve. He was sent to the Naval Training Station in San Diego, CA, for basic training. On March 8, 1943, he shipped out to serve in the South Pacific being home-based at Port Auckland, New Zealand. He served on the USS Talamanca until being sent back stateside on June 6, 1945. He then served at the Naval Ammunition Depot on Mare Island, CA, until the end of World War II. He received an Honorable Discharge on December 29, 1945.

On April 4, 1946, he went to work for Bingman Motor Sales, Okmulgee, OK, in the body shop, and later worked as Body Shop Manager for Ross-Silvey Ford, also in Okmulgee.

On September 15, 1946, he married Doris Jane Schaid in the First Christian Church of Henryetta, OK. They made their home first in Henryetta and then in Okmulgee, OK, before moving to Enid in August, 1961, where Chester went to work for Day-Neal Motor Co. as Body Shop Manager. On February 1, 1970, he began working for Automobile Damage Appraisers (ADA) as an independent appraiser. On February 1, 1971, he moved to Franklin Motor Co. as Body Shop Manager from which he retired on February 1, 1992.

Chester was an active member of Central Christian Church serving as president of the Sooner Sunday School Class for two terms. He served as a deacon for many years. He was involved in many carpentry projects at the church including the construction of cabinetry in the church offices. He also was exceptionally involved in many construction projects for Leonardo’s Discovery Warehouse and Adventure Quest.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of the home; daughter Jane Suzanne (Suzie) Little of Edmond, OK; son James Ronald (Ronnie) Ross and daughter-in-law Teresa Ross of Benbrook, TX; three grandchildren - Carson Hulcher of Edmond, his wife Carrie and their children Kelsey and Kellen; Jason Ross of Wiley, TX, his wife Jennifer and their children Savannah and Aaron; Alison Ross of Fort Worth, TX; one sister-in-law, Aileene, widow of his eldest brother, A. G. Ross, Jr., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Billy Joe, his parents, Ashby G. and Annabelle, his brothers Ashby G. Ross, Jr. and Newton B. Ross, his sister Annabelle Lee Nieman, sister-in-law Dorothy A. Maddox and her husband, Roger, brother-in-law Don Schaid and his wife, Shirley.

Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
