Evelyn Robertson, long time Enid resident passed from this life on Sunday, May 29, 2011 in Enid, OK. She was born October 10, 1918 near Jet, OK to Clarence Winfield Meigs and Grace Ann (Linden) Meigs, the second of four children.
She graduated from Richmond High School near Seiling and Northwestern State College at Alva with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education. She married Milford Melvin Robertson on January 11, 1941 and with daughter, Anita Kay, followed him to many positions over the eastern and southern US during WWII. Just before he was sent overseas, second daughter, Carolyn Sue arrived. With her two daughters, she awaited his homecoming in Enid, where she and Milford have continued to live for sixty-six years.
A faithful wife and mother, Evelyn spent most of her time keeping a good home for her family, never failing to have a meal on the table and being there when the girls arrived home from school.
She would be found much of the time bent over a sewing machine making their clothes. She was an excellent seamstress. In later years she and Milford enjoyed traveling, playing bridge and being with the grandchildren. She enjoyed flowers and yard work and being a neighbor on Ramona Drive for 57 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Edna Gammon.
Her husband survives her as do daughters, Carolyn Hopkins and husband, Lynn of Ponca City; Kay Boomer and husband, Lynn of Shattuck; three grandsons, Drew Hopkins, Marsh Boomer and wife Jan; Kurt Boomer and wife Ashley; four great grandchildren: Taylor Andrew Boomer, Susanna Grace Boomer, Seth Robertson Boomer and Grayson Paine Boomer. Also surviving, her two brothers, Eldon Meigs of Pratt, KS and Elvin Meigs and his wife Bella of Seiling, OK and various nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend gratitude to the excellent caregivers of the past few years; Janice Kerr, Cheryl Justice, Janie Frazee, Janie Taylor, Dianna Burnett, Linda Cantellay , Karen Grimes and Hospice Circle of Love and the staff and neighbors of The Commons Retirement Center where they have lived in a condo since 2005. She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church of Enid, where she and her family were all baptized, where her daughters married
Rev Jim Edmison will celebrate her life at 2:00 pm, Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church Chapel. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
