For the majority of her life, Janet was a homemaker, but she also found her calling as a caregiver for the elderly. She was a member of Central Assembly of God and Evangel Assembly of God, both in Enid. She was a devout Christian and professed her belief in Jesus Christ, often evangelizing to those in nursing homes, reading the Bible and other books to the residents. She also enjoyed studying her Bible and crocheting and knitting.

Preceding her in death are her parents, George and Irene Tate; and husband, Darrell Ray Rieger. Her two children, Russel Todd Rieger, of Enid, and David Allen Rieger, of Edmond, Oklahoma, survive her. Two grandchildren also survive Janet; Brady Allen Rieger, of Norman, Oklahoma, where he attends the University of Oklahoma, and Madelyn Renee Rieger from Norman, Oklahoma, and she attends Oklahoma State University.
