Alice Richey

October 22, 1926 — January 25, 2016

Alice Louise Clegg Shaklee Richey passed away January 25, 2016, at Greenbrier Village in Enid, OK, at the age of 89. Alice was born in Enid to Sara Hume Clegg and Waldo Gaiser Clegg on October 22, 1926.

She was a graduate of Enid High School, class of 1943, attended Phillips University for 3 years, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1947 with a Bachelor's Degree in Library Science. She was then the Director of the Enid Carnegie Library, 1947-1948, before her marriage to Ivan Roy Shaklee on April 11, 1948. Alice had 5 children with “Ike” Shaklee and lived with him near Hillsdale until his death in 1970. She moved to Enid in 1976. She also returned to OU and completed her Master's Degree in Library Science in 1976. Alice worked in several libraries but spent most of her adult work life as an Assistant Director at Zollars Memorial Library at Phillips University, 1963-1981. She married Robert L. Richey in 1979. She moved to Greenbrier in 2014. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands: Ivan Roy Shaklee and Robert Lee Richey, her son Mark Ivan Shaklee, and her granddaughter Amber Jo Buckley-Shaklee. She is survived by her sister Mary Jeanette Morgan of Reno, NV; Mark’s wife Bonnie Buckley of Charleston, IL, and their son Ryan (Meg Shaklee) Buckley-Shaklee (parents of Bella, Emi, and Teddy) and their daughter Shannon Buckley-Shaklee; her daughter Suzy Horvath (Roy) of Hesperus, CO, their daughters Kristi and Kelli Horvath; and 3 sons, Kent W. (Mary) Shaklee of Hillsdale, OK, their daughters Theresa Shaklee and Kate (Jason Sherman) Shaklee; Bill Shaklee of Pardeeville, WI, his daughter Sara Shaklee (parent of Natalie); and Pat (Kim Reinke) Shaklee of Pardeeville, WI, their daughter Maggie (Ben) Himsel; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Alice was a beloved mother, grandmother, librarian, and an active member of the Enid, Hillsdale, and Kremlin communities. She attended St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in her youth, and was involved in the Hillsdale Congregational Church and University Place Christian Church as an adult. Alice was also a member of the Oklahoma Library Association and the Keowette Extension Club in Hillsdale.

A celebration of Alice’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Enid Public Library, University Place Christian Church, or the Muscular Dystrophy Association with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
