Velma Reed

The graveside service for Velma Jo (Kesner) Reed, 92, Yukon, formerly of Kingfisher, is 10 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at Memorial Park Cemetery, 6405 Memorial Drive, Enid, Oklahoma.

There will be a visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, December 6, 2019 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, 2800 N. Van Buren, Enid.

Velma was born September 28, 1927 in Enid to Joe W. and Thelma (Holloway) Kesner. She passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019 in Oklahoma City.

Velma graduated from Enid High School and attended Phillips University. She married Arrel L. Reed on August 12, 1948, in Enid, and they had four children.

Mrs. Reed diligently pursued her bachelor of science in education from Central State University by attending summer school for ten years while raising a family. She began her teaching career in Loyal, before transferring to Hennessey Public Schools in 1972 where she taught remedial reading for four years. Velma continued her love for education in the Kingfisher Public School system as an elementary reading and math lab teacher, earning the honor of Teacher of the Year before her retirement in 1986.

Upon retirement, Mrs. Reed enjoyed attending watercolor classes, singing with her identical twin sister, walking with her husband, reading and traveling to many places abroad with her children and their families.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and brothers Jimmie and Roy Kesner.

Mrs. Reed is survived by her twin sister, Thelma Brauser, her four children, Joel Reed, and wife Ann, San Diego, CA; Rhonda Simpson, and husband Mike, Mustang, OK; Mark Reed, and wife Dee Ann, Wichita Falls, TX; Alisa Lukasek, and husband Don, Houston, TX; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations may be made to the Kingfisher Education Foundation or the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
