Funeral Service for Raymond “Raymie” Hendrie, 82 of Enid, will be 2:00 PM, Monday, May 13, 2019, at First Baptist Church with Pastor Kelly Russell officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Saturday 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM at the funeral home.
Raymond was born on January 21, 1937, in Enid to Gerald & Velma Hendrie and passed away on May 8, 2019, in Norman.
He graduated from Enid High School in 1955. In 1959, he joined the US Army serving as a helicopter mechanic in South Korea. Raymond married Barbara Boss on September 29, 1962. Together, they had two daughters, Sherri and Jennifer.
From 1971-2018, Raymond had several restaurant businesses. He owned and operated the Hendrie House Buffet, Holland House, and Raymie’s Restaurant. He also operated several Buffy’s Buffet locations throughout Oklahoma. During this time, he catered events throughout Enid and surrounding communities. He was extremely proud of the food service he provided to local civic organizations and many oil field companies across the state.
On May 20,1995, Raymond married Patty Jo Shearon. With this marriage, he gained three stepchildren: Michele, Ashton, and Holly. Raymond & Patty enjoyed dancing, traveling together and operating the family business.
Raymond had a love for the outdoors, enjoying quail hunting and golf. Over the years, he had an immense passion for raising Brittany spaniels. He will be greatly missed by his beloved dogs, Pancho, Cisco and Bo.
Raymond’s greatest attribute in life was his generosity to others. He had a servant’s heart and spent all his years helping many in need. His love for his friends, family and employees was mutual. Many of his employees remained with him for decades.
Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Kevin Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Patty; one brother, Don Hendrie (Dorothy) of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Sherri Hendrie (Christie) of Enid and Jennifer Hendrie Thompson of Moore; two stepdaughters, Michele Rogers and Holly Ashby, both of Enid; stepson, Ashton Shearon (Tiffany) of Enid. Surviving grandchildren are Jordan Thompson (Alex), Trevor Thompson, Shanel Martin(Chinyelu), Chandler Yarbrough(Patrick), Nakyah Peetsch, Tehya Shearon, Jordan Ashby, and Chloe Crowl. Great-grandchildren are Aspen, Jaxon, Chinyelu, and Sade.
Memorials in Raymond’s name may be made to Enid American Legion Post 4 with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodian of the funds.
