The funeral service for Earl Gene Randolph, 79, will be 2pm, Saturday, September 3rd, 2011 at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Pastor Duane Berg of The Okeene First Church of God and Pastor Earle Metcalf of Fairview officiating. Burial will follow at 4:30 pm at the Roselawn Cemetery, Okeene under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home
Earl Gene was born September 20, 1931, in Goltry, Oklahoma, to Lycurgus and Lucille (Morgan) Randolph. In his younger years he moved a lot with his family and lived in Enid, Watonga, Guthrie, Holdenville, Ardmore, Okeene, and Denver, Colorado. He attended many different schools in Oklahoma, but graduated from Okeene High School in 1949. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1951 and went through infantry training at Fort Ord, California. He served his country with the 25th infantry division fighting in Korea. After a one year tour in Korea, he returned to teach infantry tactics at Camp San Luis Obispo, California and was honorably discharged after completing service in 1953. From there, he returned to Okeene, Oklahoma, where he married Dorothy Marie Jantzen on June 20, 1954. They made their home in Enid, Oklahoma, where he worked at A&A grocery. His next job was with Civil Service at Vance Air Force Base in Base supply. He transferred to the Commissary and was eventually promoted to Commissary Officer. He retired in 1986 after working 32 years for the Air Force. He was recognized with an “Award of Excellence” for his achievements. After retiring from the Commissary, he helped his wife operate their gift shop “Treasures and Trinkets” for five years. During all of his employment he also farmed at Okeene for 34 years retiring in 2010. Throughout his life he loved helping his family, friends, and neighbors. He spent most of his time building, repairing and restoring at the farm, his home, and his children’s homes.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, his daughter Kelly Merrifield and husband Joe of Stillwater, his son Taylor Randolph and wife Stacey of Enid, grandchildren Sara and Henry Merrifield of Stillwater, sisters, Alice Artrip and her husband Cody, Pat Briggs (husband Clint deceased) all of Sacramento, CA, in-laws Kenneth and Mildred Slaght of Okeene and many nieces and nephews.
He loved the Lord and was a member of the First Church of God. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, friend and neighbor. He was a humble Veteran with a kind and gentle, non-materialistic nature. He loved his farm and was a good steward with what God gave him. He served others with a quiet, happy spirit. During the twelve years of illnesses, he looked forward to each new day.
He reminded his family of this verse in the Bible.
I Thessalonians 4:11 “and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life and attend to your own business and work with your hands, just as we commanded you.”
He received excellent, loving care by Dr. Rivers, the nurses and staff of St. Mary’s hospital, and many other physicians and care providers.
