The funeral service for L V Powell, age 88, of Waukomis will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Rev John McLemore and Rev Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
LV was born in Covington, OK, February 7, 1923 to Louisia and Vane Powell and passed away Sunday, August 7, 2011 after a long battle with cancer. He grew up in Hunter and Blackwell where he acquired his life long love of fishing with his brother, Ernie and their dog, Kaiser.
In 1949 he married Marianna Elwood of Mooreland, OK. They made their home in Enid and later moved to Waukomis. They celebrated 62 years of marriage in February.
He went to work for Champlin Refinery in 1947 and retired with 35 years of service.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, caring for his horses and working in his yard. He coached little league baseball for his sons as they were growing up. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Marianna of the home, two sons and their wives, Kerry and Maria and Randy and Kandi; four grandchildren, Adina Powell, Cristina Powell, Ryan Powell and Kristin Powell Kelly and her husband, Tim; one great grandchild; two step great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ernie Powell.
