A Celebration of Life service for Orval Nichols, age 99, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Crosspoint Church with Rev. Mike Sommerfeld officiating. Burial will follow in the Enid Mennonite Brethren Cemetery, under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Orval was born September 7, 1924, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, to Ernst and Cora (Morris) Nichols and went to our Lord and Savior on June 9, 2024. He grew up in Enid and lived here all his life. He served in the U. S. Army and served in Germany and France. He and Ruth Pennick were married January 27, 1945. He had many different jobs including farming, railroad and City of Enid. He joined the Enid Police Dept. in March, 1960, and retired August of 1989 at the rank of Captain.
He had a great sense of humor and loved to tell his many stories. Horses were a huge interest. Orval’s life was eternally changed on a dirt road near Dover, when he accepted Christ as his savior. As a result, he is now rejoicing in Heaven and he leaves a legacy of Christian influence.
Orval and Ruth were married 57 years before her death on July 17, 2001. They had 5 children; Sherryl Perry of Tampa, FL, the late Barbara Post (David) of Austin, TX, Tim (Vanita) Nichols of Houston, TX, Tom (Lori) Nichols of Enid, Amy (Archie) Siebert of Enid, 8 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, and several more family and many friends.
Orval was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, a daughter Barbara, and five siblings.
