Funeral services for Ray E. Nelson age 79 of Carrier will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Don Tines officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the kind direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Ray was born July 20, 1930 in Enid, OK to Earl and Bertha Duff Nelson and passed away January 28, 2010 in St. Mary’s Hospital. He was raised in Carrier and graduated from Carrier High School in 1948. He attended Oklahoma A. & M. from 1948- 1953 until he was drafted in to the U. S. Marine Corp. He entered the U. S. Marine on February 6, 1952, serving in the Korean Conflict and was honorable discharged on January 31, 1954. He married Norvella Buckminster on May 3, 1953 in Oceanside, California. He went back to Oklahoma State University and graduated in 1955.
Ray farmed most of his life in the Carrier Community. He was a member of the Carrier Congregational Church where he served as a deacon. He served on the Carrier Coop Board for many years.
He is survived by his wife Norvella of the home, son David and his wife Nancy Nelson of Carrier, daughter Cindi Browne and her husband Mark of San Antonio, TX, grandchildren Sarah, Chris, and Elizabeth Browne, Andy and Brady Nelson, a sister Jane Ann Stewart and her husband Bob of Amarillo, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials may be made to Carrier Congregational Church or Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund.
