The funeral service for Pastor Joseph L Myers, age 61, will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber, OK. Pastor Tim Dorsch will officiate. Burial will be in the Ft Gibson National Cemetery, Ft Gibson, OK, Monday, August 2, 2010 at 10:00 am. There will be a time of visitation with the family Friday evening from 5-7 at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, Enid, OK.
Joe was born November 10, 1948 in Estherville, IA to Jack and Lillian (Wellnitz) Myers and died July 26, 2010 in Wagoner, OK as the result of a heart attack. He received his Bachelors Degree from the University of Iowa and his Masters of Divinity from the Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft Wayne, IN.
He married Mary Cunningham on February 14, 1986 at the First Lutheran Church in Muskogee, OK. He served in the US Air Force in Viet Nam. He was the Pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church, the Chaplain of Garfield County Sheriffs Office, Chaplain of the Garber Fire Department and previously served as the Oklahoma District of LCMS as Human Care Secretary and Evangelism Secretary for several years. He loved to read, play golf, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of the home, brothers, John Myers and wife Yvonne of Muskogee, OK, Jim Myers and wife Sara of Sioux Falls, SD; sisters, Sharon Kelly and husband Dick of Mason City, IA, Sandy Dawald and husband JC of Northwood IA, Janet Sunde and husband Dick of Vermillion, SD and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
