Funeral services for Nieva Munkres age 93 of Enid will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. John McLemore and Don Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Nieva was born February 3, 1918 in Oklahoma County to Paul M. and Ethel M. Lovell Vorel and passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, July 28, 2011. She was raised in Luther, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in 1936. She attended Oklahoma Teachers College in Edmond where she received her teaching degree. She received her Masters in education from Oklahoma State University.
Nieva married Leonard Munkres in 1948 and he passed away June 19, 1981. They lived in the Drummond Community.
She taught school in Ponca City, Tonkawa, Newkirk, Meno, Enid Schools (Lincoln, Glenwood, Jefferson, and Eisenhower) before retiring after 40 years.
She was a member of Central Christian Church where she was very active.
Survivors include her son Ned Munkres and his wife Melissa from Bulverde, TX, two granddaughters, Lisa Kearns of Monroe, NC and Traci Buffum of San Antonio, TX, 6 great grandchildren, two brothers Paul M. Vorel, Jr of Yukon, OK and Emil M. Vorel of Luther, OK.
She was preceded in death by her sister Vieva Yoesting.
Memorials may be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or Central Christian Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the fund.
