Phyllis and J.C. moved back to Enid in 1981, after J.C. started Sundance Energy. Phyllis was active in the Enid community. She served on the YWCA board, attended the First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, assisted on the Sanctuary Guild, and volunteered as the Sooner Sunday School class treasurer. She belonged to the Chi Omega Alumnae group, Kappa Kappa Iota, Hoe and Grow Garden Club, Chapter F.A. PEO (a sisterhood of women supporting other women through advanced education), and delivered food for Mobile Meals.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, brother William B. (Andy) Anderson of Denison, Texas, and daughter in-law, Susan Lynn Hronopulos-Mitchell, of Enid.
