Betty Ann Miller was born to Henry Nicholas Apel and Rose Marie (Descher) Apel on February 17, 1929, in Enid, Oklahoma. She joined her husband in Heaven after a brief illness on Monday, February 20, 2023. She grew up on the family farm south of Enid, along with her parents and six sisters. She attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School until she married Emmitt “Junior” Miller on October 5, 1946. Together they made their home in Enid, building a family and legacy of love that would carry on over generations. Betty was the consummate homemaker, committed to making family and friends feel welcome in her home under any circumstances. They raised three children; two daughters, Sharon Kay (Miller) O’Brien and Debbie Ann (Miller) Head, and a son; Terry Lee Miller. In addition to caring for her home and family, Betty also worked at home as bookkeeper for Brown Electric, the business that Junior operated from their home. She lived in the same home for nearly 60 years, spending the past year at St. Ann’s Catholic Retirement Community in Oklahoma City.

Betty is survived by her children, Sharon O’Brien, and Terry Miller (Kathy), as well as grandchildren Diane Floyd (Jayson), Michael O’Brien, Brandon Head (Robin), Caroline Ashby (Alex), Mason Miller (Karly), Angela Henderson (Evan), and Bridget Miller. She was also proud to be great-grandmother to Hannah Floyd, Jameson Floyd, Murphy O’Brien, Miller Henderson, Keller Henderson and Miles Miller. She is also survived by sisters Berniece Pierce and Sue Ellen Elliott, as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Rose Apel, husband Emmitt “Junior” Miller, and daughter Debby head; as well as sons-in-law Jack O’Brien and Tom Head, and sisters Rosie LaRue, Marlene Kokojan, Dora Mae Meloy, and Louise Montgomery.

Betty was a beloved mother and grandmother, and devoted OSU Cowboys fan. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her love for her family, the ice cream sandwiches that were always in the freezer and the Hershey bars in the enamelware box in the fridge. Her family will spend generations working to live up to her fine example.
