A Memorial Service for Stuart Lee Meulpolder, age 88, of Enid, will be 10:30 am, Friday, October 20, 2023 at the First Methodist Church of Enid with Reverend Devon Krause officiating. Funeral and cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. His family will lay him to rest in Pella Oakwood Cemetery, Pella, Iowa, at a future date.
Stuart Meulpolder passed away Thursday, October 5, 2023. He was born October 27, 1934 to Marinus and Lilly Margaret Sophia (Wesslund) Meulpolder in Pella, Iowa.
Stuart graduated from Pella High School in 1952, after which he volunteered for the United States Army. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he earned his degree from the University of Iowa in 1959. In 1955, he met and married Barbara Grandia, and they moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota for his job with Hormel. After 17 years, they decided to move to Enid and purchase Bloom’s Meat Company. Years later, Bloom’s Meat was sold and Stu went on to Advance Meat as Director of Purchasing. He retired at age 75. Over these years, Stu and Barbara happily welcomed three children, Lowell, Laura and Amy. Stu was a loyal member of the First United Methodist Church and many Enid organizations. He was a member of the Osteopathic Hospital Board and volunteered with Our Daily Bread delivering meals.
Stu was a kind, friendly, and gentle man who adored Barbara for 68 years. His family describes him as having an adventurous spirit. He enthusiastically enjoyed traveling, camping out, bicycle trips, snow and water skiing, scuba diving, tennis, and ping pong! Most of all, he was a loving family man. He enjoyed making memories with his children and grandchildren. He was always there for them, never judgmental, kind and patient. He attended all their sports events, and even taught them how to start a safe fire when camping. Because his steaks were so delicious, his family named him The Grill Master. This special man left love, many memories, and will be greatly missed.
Stu was preceded in death by his son Lowell Meulpolder; parents, Marinus and Lilly Meulpolder, and a sister, Lorraine Synhorst. He is survived by his loving wife Barbara; daughters, Laura Ogle Humphrey and husband Monte; and Amy Brewer Boyland and husband Robert. Stu is survived by seven grandsons, one granddaughter, three great-granddaughters, one great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions in Stu’s name may be made to The First United Methodist Church, The Parkinsons Foundation, or Our Daily Bread with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
