Cyrilla was the oldest of 5 siblings born to John Clemens Hoffmeier and Adelaide May Hughes in Rochester, PA on May 22, 1921 and passed away Friday, July 11, 2014. Cyrilla graduated from Rochester High School in 1939. She married Calvin E. Mettee on August 23, 1941 and had two daughters Sally Jane and Joan Lois.
Always a great partner to Calvin she moved with him during his military career to Washington, DC and Dayton, OH. She worked as a Secretary to support Calvin as he attended Ohio State University to obtain his Engineering Degree. Cyrilla was very proud of Calvin’s efforts and was inspired to further her own education at Bliss Business School in Columbus. After graduating from Bliss she had an 18+ year career working in Ohio and Michigan as a Draftswoman for Chrysler Defense Engineering, Republic Steel, and Goodyear Aerospace.
Calvin and Cyrilla retired to Enid in 1979 to be closer to their 3 grandchildren. In addition to enjoying being a part of her grandkids lives she was also a very active member of the community. She was a member of Eastern Star, Fellowship Guild, Shriner Ladies, Meadowlake Ladies Golf League, and Enid Arts Council. She was also a volunteer and gave her time to organizations like Senior Life Network, Saint Mary’s Hospital, Leonardo’s, and Oklahoma Blood Institute.
Cyrilla was also very creative and a talented artist. She took great joy in painting and sharing her pictures with family and friends. Her creativity and her enjoyment of painting was a very important part of how she wanted to be remembered. Her artwork hangs proudly in every family members home.
