Calvin Mettee

June 30, 1918 — July 19, 2015

A Celebration of Life and Remembrance Service for Calvin E. Mettee is 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Central Christian Church, Enid, OK. Reverend Don Johnson, Reverend Shannon Speidel and Sister Macrina Cowan will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Calvin passed away peacefully on July 19, 2015 in Enid, OK at the age of 97. Calvin was born June 30, 1918 in Youngstown, OH to Grace and Cecil Eyster. He was raised in Austintown, OH where he graduated from Fitch High School in 1937.

Calvin enlisted in the Army Air Corp in March 1941 and was honorably discharged in October 1945. He married Cyrilla Hoffmeier in August 1941, they were married for 73 years. Cyrilla and Calvin were blessed with two daughters Sally Jane and Joan Lois.

After leaving the service Calvin went to school on the GI Bill and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1948 with a Mechanical Engineering degree.

Calvin utilized his degree as a Plant Engineer at Goodyear Aerospace in Akron, OH, SKF Engineering in Massillon, OH, and The Cross Company in Detroit, Michigan.

A true Ohio State graduate and life-long Buckeye fan. He was very active in the Ohio State Alumni and very proud of his participation as recruiter for the Ohio State Football team while living in Ohio and Michigan.

In 1980 Calvin and Cyrilla retired in Enid to be close to their grandchildren. They were always there for family events but also had many interests of their own. Calvin was an avid golfer and could be found most days on the golf course in his early retirement years.

He was also a very active member of Central Christian Church in Enid and participated in many of their church activities to include the Sooner Class and Men’s Lunch Group.

Calvin was a life member of Pond Creek Masonic Lodge 125 and Garfield Masonic Lodge 501, Past Patron of Ruth Chapter 447 Eastern Star. Calvin was also Past Grand Commander of the Grand Commandry of Oklahoma, the Scottish Rite of Guthrie, OK, the Akdar Shrine and many other masonic lodges.

Calvin is survived by his daughter Sally Jane Keeler of Enid, one sister Dorothy Prescot, South Carolina, three grandchildren, Tricia Keeler Felt, Enid, OK, Josh Keeler, Tulsa, OK, and Shannon Bandy, Oklahoma City, eight great-grandchildren, Kaylea Felt, Garrett Felt, Erin Bourland, Carson Bandy, Lauren Petty, Kyle Petty, Avery Keeler, and Morgan Keeler.

Calvin was preceded in death by wife Cyrilla Mettee, daughter Joan Mettee Albright, and his parents Grace and Cecil Eyster, and brother Robert Woods.

The family would like to thank both the Golden Oaks staff for their care and the Caregivers from Central Christian Church.
