Ernest Meter

September 5, 1940 — June 28, 2012

Funeral services for Ernest Preston Van Meter, 71, will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Sommerfield officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Monday, July 2nd from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ernie was born to Simon & Viola (Marney) Van Meter on Sept. 5th, 1940 in Enid and died June 28th, 2012 at Integris Bass Hospital in Enid.

Ernie worked for many years at OG&E before starting his own business Ern's Construction Company. He then worked for a few years as the maintenance manager for the Town of Goltry and later worked for Seedorf Construction before retiring.

Ernie was a member of Sonrise Fellowship Church. Ernie enjoyed spending his time fishing, traveling and having cook-outs with family and friends.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 6 1/2 years, Carolyn of the home; children Sheila Unruh and husband Randy of Meno, Doug Van Meter and wife Kamee of Edmond, Tamara White of Enid, Rex Van Meter and wife Deborah of Yukon; grandsons Kolt, Dylan, Kade, Dean, and Blake; granddaughters Rachel, Christina, Stacie, Jennifer, Aubree, Karsyn, and Ashlee and great-grandchildren Breanna, Sara, Eli, Arianna and Jonah.

The family wishes to thank the many friends who've showed their love, care and compassion over the last few days. Ernie had many friends and seemed to be known by all.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Donna Marie and Velma and nieces Vanessa and Donna Kay.
