A Celebration of Life Service for Leota Faye Mercer age 91, of Enid will be 2:00 pm Friday, February 20, 2015 at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Nathan Twyman officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Leota was born October 17, 1923 in Loyal, OK to Curtis and Cloa Cheek Payne and passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 in Integris Bass Baptist Hospital. She was raised in Wichita where she attended and graduated from high school. She married Elmer Leroy Mercer on March 21, 1942 in Fairview, OK and he passed away on February 21, 1987. In 1960, they moved to Midwest City, OK and moved back to Enid in 1972. Leota worked as a cook at several schools in the Enid area. She was a member of Garland Road Baptist Church. She was a leader of the Enid TOPS group for 2 years, where she met and cherished many friends. Leota loved to garden, raise flowers and fish. She enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren.
Leota is survived by her children, Vonnie Mercer, Darlene Long and Billy Taylor, Ron Mercer and his wife Lil and Debbie Venable and husband Jerry, six grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son Leroy, and daughter Anita, two brothers, Gilbert and Leroy and two sisters, Leona and Estella, and a great grandson Gunnar.
