Orlen "Curley" Mellott

A Memorial Service for Orlen “Curley” Mellott, age 88, of Enid, will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Smith and Rev. Scott Mahoney officiating. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Curley was born September 5, 1935 in Alden, Kansas to Forest and Ora (Johnston) Mellott, and passed away with his wife Rachel at his side, on Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at his home in Enid.

He married Rachel Tatro on June 15, 1974 in Maize, Kansas, and they made their home in Conway Springs, Kansas. He worked as a Production Supervisor for Mack Energy, which required several moves; they moved to Great Bend, Kansas on June 15, 1975, eventually moving to Enid December 15, 1986 to take over the Oklahoma and Kansas field. After his retirement in 1998, he kept busy hauling pumps for Skip Moon. Curly enjoyed working in his yard, listening to country music and spending time with his family. Known to be a jokester, he was always up for pulling a good prank.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rachel, of the home in Enid; five children, Bobby Mellott and wife Marnie, Harper, KS; Carolyn McClaflin and husband Dallas, of Kingman, KS; Tommy Mellott and wife Angela, of Springdale, AR; Kim Ryel and husband Glen, of Enid; Kip Strate and wife Kris, of Rose Hill, KS; 18 grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Tim, Kellie, Julie, Tori, Jarrod, Andrea, Gabriella, Daniella, Michelle, Hannah, Shauna, Jesse, Jake, Molly, Shelby, and Shanae; 31 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Harriet Ward and husband Richard, of Chase, KS; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jimmy Mellott, and three brothers, Bobby, Jack, and Frank Mellott.

Memorial contributions in Curley’s name may be made to the Enid SPCA with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
