Juanita Mccubbins

April 3, 1918 — June 3, 2015

A Celebration of Life and Service of Remembrance for Juanita S. McCubbins, age 97, a resident of Enid, Oklahoma spanning 9 decades, is 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015, in the Chapel of the Enid Cemetery, 212 W. Willow, Enid, Ok. An open casket visitation will be at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home, on Friday, June 12, 2015. Juanita passed away peacefully at her Aberdeen Heights apartment in Tulsa on June 3, 2015. She had resided near her eldest son’s home for the past 30 months.

Juanita was born April 3, 1918 near Vonore, Tennessee to parents Tipton and Iris, and grew up in the hills along the banks of the Little Tennessee River with her sister Hope and brothers Edwin, Raymond, and Winston. Her mother died when she was a child and later she took care of her father after he became ill. Was this the beginning of her life calling as a nurturer and caregiver? We know that beyond assisting with her father’s health needs, Juanita would drive him, the local postman, over the challenging mountain roads even when she was just a young teenager to enable him to complete his rounds. After he father’s death she moved to Enid with her sister and brother-in-law George who had established themselves in medical practice in the community.

Juanita married Clarence McCubbins on June 4, 1939. Clarence and Juanita lived in Tulsa during World War II before returning to Enid. When military service took her brother-in-law, and sister, abroad in the ‘50’s, Juanita added Hope’s three children to her own three at home. Juanita’s love for children extended beyond her family. She was a leader of Camp Fire Girls & Cub Scouts and escorted many school band and sports team trips. Perhaps only one thing rivaled her love for children; that was gardening. It did not matter whether it was raising flowers or fruits & vegetables there were always more than her family needed and she shared this bounty with both neighbors and church.

Juanita is remembered by her children Rilla, Tipton and Phillip (Win), and son-in-law Marvin and daughters-in-law Stefanie, Susan and Baiju, along with grandchildren Anne, Nathania, Katharine and Wolf. She was preceded by her husband and son Raymond (Chris).

Memorial contributions may be made to the YWCA Crisis Center, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

The family would like to thank the staff of Aberdeen Heights Assisted Living for their loving care.
