Frances Bernice McClaflin
Funeral services for Frances Bernice McClaflin, 82, were held in Enid, OK, Tuesday, June 21, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Internment at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum.
Bernice was born in Enid, OK on February 8, 1929 to Burton and Frances Ryan Fowler. The family moved to Wakita, OK in 1943 where she attended Manchester High School and met her future husband, Howard Glenn McClaflin. The couple married on November 20, 1946.
Howard and Bernice had three children; Carolyn Marie, Cynthia Sue and Roger Glenn. In 1950, they relocated to Guymon, OK with Adams Hard Facing. While raising her family, Bernice worked at Gibson’s for 10 years as a Supervisor. Bernice retired just in time to dote on her grandchildren, who came every summer for the decade following. The couple moved to Enid in 2003.
Howard and Bernice were avid travelers taking car trips over the years to every corner of the US. Bernice was an avid bowler. She is a long time record holder at Suburban Lanes where she bowled an almost perfect game – all strikes and one spare – scoring 279, setting the record high game and series for women and tying the men’s high game.
Bernice loved music, particularly Country Western. She was an Elvis fan from the start of his career; seeing him first in concert at they Guymon High School gym on 1955 and later in Amarillo. She was also an avid Sooner fan.
Bernice is survived by her husband, Howard of Enid; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Larry Haught of Colorado, Springs, CO; son-in-law, William Harden of Ontario, CA; son, Roger of Guymon, OK; brother Carroll Fowler and wife Carol Ann of Hillsdale, MI; brother Duane Baker and wife Cathy of Topeka, KS; grandson and wife, Randal and Birgitt Hicks; grandson, Jeffery Harden of Phelan, CA; granddaughter, Kimberly Hicks of Atlanta, GA; grandson and wife, Breton and Paula Harden of Ontario, CA; step-granddaughter and husband, Jodi and Gary Bargamian of Ellicott City, MD; step-grandson and wife, Greg and Jamie Haught of Castle Rock, CO; eight great-grandchildren, Skyler, Jaden, Kayla, Gavin, Michael, Elizabeth, Mason and Mya and many great-grandpets.
Bernice is preceded in death by her parents; step-father, George Baker; and daughter, Cynthia Harden. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, omrf.org .
