Leona Maynard

January 21, 1916 — October 6, 2011

Funeral services for Leona Newkirk Maynard, age 95, will be held Monday, October 10, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Rev Lesly Broadbent will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Leona was born January 21, 1916 northwest of Enid, OK to Arthur A and Mary M Combs Porter and died October 6, 2011 at her home. She married Merida W Newkirk, May 22, 1933 and they had four children. She lived all of her life in the Enid area. Their farm was just a mile from where she was born. She lived there until 1978 when she moved into Enid. Merida passed away October 1971. She later married E.O. Maynard in 1974 and he passed away in 1988.

She was a member of Willow View United Methodist Church, the Banner Home Demonstration Club, and Banner Boosters. Leona later worked for Baby Duds, Denton Interior and volunteered at St Mary’s Hospital.

She is survived by a son, Richard and Jamie Newkirk; two daughters, Linda and Larry Clemens and Betty and Mason Karns; grandchidren are Jeff Karns, April and Mark Batchelder, Tony Wedel, Kris Miller, Jason Newkirk and Cory Newkirk; twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandson.

Leona was preceded in death by husbands, Merida Newkirk and E.O. Maynard; one son, Roy Newkirk; sister, Juanita and four brothers, Leo, Cecil, Cassie and Dean Porter.
