Memorial service for Gene Mason, age 60, of Enid, OK will be Sunday, December 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the Central Christian Church. Rev John McLemore and Rev Don Johnson will officiate. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Gene was born January 20, 1951 in Chanute, KS to “Bud” and Vada Mason and passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2011 at St Mary’s Hospital.
Gene graduated from Chanute High School in 1969 and in 1973 he received his BME degree from Ouachita Baptist University and later his masters’ degree from OSU. He taught music in Kansas before moving to Blackwell where he taught history and coached wrestling and track for nine years. Gene taught history at Emerson Jr High for ten years and social studies at Enid High School for ten years before retirement in 2004.
Gene married Judy Nichols on August 14, 1971. He loved spending time with his family and performing music with his church and Enid-Phillips Community Symphony (trumpet). He sang and performed with church music groups which traveled in many states as well as our own community. He had a great love for his many pet dogs and cats. He was a volunteer for Enid ASPCA.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Judy Mason, his son, Mitchell Mason and his wife Melissa and 3 year old daughter, Ali Mason of Joplin, MO; his daughter, Merrilee O’Meilia and her husband Chris and 6 year old son, Max O’Meilia of Tijeras, NM.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents.
