On Sunday, November 9th, Deanna Jean Martinez ended her life's journey. She, like far too many fellow Americans, contracted and eventually succumbed to Covid-19. Deanna was born and raised in a Chicago suburb, the daughter of Arnold and Arleen Rein and oldest sister of Jack and Darleen Rein (Hahn). She enjoyed spending time taking care of and riding her horses. It was a love of animals that would continue throughout her life. After graduating from high school and with the encouragement of her Grandma Lillian West, she took off west for adventure and headed to Los Angeles. Deanna met her husband at work and they had two boys who were both born in LA, Ruben Jr. and Victor. Deanna and Ruben Sr. eventually went their separate ways, but remained good friends throughout their lives. Deanna, Ruben Jr., and Victor moved to Woodward, Oklahoma to be close to Deanna's parents, Arnold and Arleen Rein of Camargo, OK. Deanna had various jobs during her time in Woodward. She worked at the old Fruit of the Loom factory. She worked at the Daily Press and then the Woodward News. Finally, she ended up working at the Office of Juvenile Affairs and eventually retired from there. Deanna was well liked and friendly to everyone she met.
She is survived by her sister Darleen and brother-in-law Galin Hahn of Woodward, OK, her son, Ruben Martinez Jr. of Woodward, OK, her son Victor and daughter-in-law Landi Martinez of Waukesha, Wisconsin, and their three children Connery, Caitlin, and Campbell Martinez, and many nieces and nephews.
There are no memorial services planned and her wishes were that her ashes would be scattered in Lake Michigan and the Pacific Ocean. In lieu of flowers, the family would encourage people to make a donation to WOOF Pet Rescue Society of Woodward, OK.
Deanna supported the organization and the work they do for rescues.
