A Graveside Service for Winona Gail (Griffith) Layton, age 81 years, of Enid, is 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum with Reverend Jim Edmison officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 16th at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Winona was born January 19, 1937 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Everett and Marguerite (Mullins) Johnson, and passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 in Enid.
Winona graduated from Guymon High School and then attended Goodwell College where she started her nursing studies. She was an LPN at Enid Regional Hospital and a Medical Auditor St. Mary’s Hospital until she retired at the age of 70. She married John Thomas Griffith, Jr. on October 28, 1966 and they blended their families, his four children and her three. They were married 35 years until John passed away in 2001. She married Robert Layton May 30, 2002 in Enid. Winona enjoyed football, especially OSU. She loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren play sports.
Winona is predeceased by her parents, Everett and Marguerite Johnson; husband John Thomas Griffith, Jr.; a daughter, Debbie Driver; and grandson, Michael Levi Grogan. She is survived by her husband of 16 years, Robert Layton, of the home in Enid; two daughters, Terri Hiatt and husband Roger, of Enid; Brenda Williamson Grogan of Moore, OK; two step-daughters, Pamela Germany and Roger, of Duncan, OK; Barbara Schutkesting and husband Fred, of Enid; three step-sons, Steven Griffith and wife Beverly, of Azle, TX; John Thomas Griffith, III and wife Cindy, of Edmond, OK; Jeffrey Griffith of Ft. Worth, TX; eight grandchildren, Shaun Sibit, Alicia Henry, Kari McMahan, Cody Grogan, Ty Hiatt, Vicki Driver; Brandonn Schutkesting, Brooke Schutkesting; seven step-grandchildren, Jennifer Boyd, Dusty Henderson, Lori Richards, Kelly King, Kristy McCune, Steven Griffith, Melissa Ashford; thirty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and many friends.
Memorials in Winona’s name may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
