The funeral service for Melvin W. Lawrenz, Sr. age 88 of Enid will be 11 am Wednesday August 14, 2013 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Scott Whittenburg and Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. Burial will be follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Melvin was born March 16, 1925 in Okarche, OK to Richard and Frances (Gleichman) Lawrenz and passed away Sunday, August 11, 2013 at his home.
Melvin graduated from Piedmont High School in 1943. He entered the U.S. Navy in March 1944 and served as a Boson’s Mate during WW II and was honorably discharged in April 1946. On February 25, 1950 he married Margaret Poplin in Enid.
In 1948, he moved to Enid and worked as a Catalyst Operator at Champlin Refinery for 34 years, retiring in 1983. After retirement, he managed several rental properties and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Melvin was a longtime active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
He is survived by wife Margaret, son Melvin (Crystal) Lawrenz, Jr., daughters Vicky Lecinski, Melva (Ken) Glaser, Diane Lawrenz, and Wendy (Tony) Myers, 19 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
