Charles Lavicky

A Celebration of Life Service for Charles “Charlie” Rudolph Lavicky Jr, age 88, of Enid will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 16, 2024 at Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Jim Edmison officiating. A private burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Charlie was born May 21, 1935 to Alma and Charles Lavicky Sr. on a farm southwest of Garber, Oklahoma (old Hwy 64 to Enid) and passed away May 12, 2024 at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Enid, OK. He worked for his father (Charles Lavicky Construction Company) while growing up and graduated from Enid High School in 1953. Charlie went to work for George E. Failing Company in 1954 in the machine shop until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in April of 1957 and after basic training Charlie was then sent to Ettlingen, Germany as part of the 175th Engineer Company to perform various U.S. and German relation jobs, where he met Helga Breitenstein in Weingarten, Germany while clearing the hills around Weingarten so that the German people could grow grapes. They were married on February 10, 1961. Charlie was then stationed in Fort Hood, TX as part of the 46th Engineer Company in 1961.He was stationed in Fort Polk, LA thru 1964 and then moved back to Enid. In late 1964, as part of the 809th Engineer Company, he was sent to Thailand to help build a road from Bangkok to Udorn. When Charlie returned from Thailand he was sent to Fort Sill, OK and then was discharged from the Army on November 5, 1965 as a Sergeant in the Army.

After the Army, Charlie started with Cummins Construction Company as a mechanic on Nov. 8, 1965. He moved from being a mechanic to driving a move truck, moving equipment and asphalt plants all over the U.S. for 2 years. He later took over managing Cummins’ shop as foreman, eventually becoming Vice President and Equipment Manager

before retiring on December 31, 1995 with over 30 years of service.

While working at Cummins, Charlie purchased a dump truck in 1969 and then a 2nd truck in 1970 while hauling for Benton Sand Company. He established Charlie Lavicky Sand, Gravel, & Building Materials on August 20, 1978. After retiring from Cummins, Charlie spent many years doing mechanic work from his private shop for various businesses and farmers throughout the area. He enjoyed building and working on race cars, spending time boating and fishing with his family and friends, going to the casino, playing cards, and playing bingo at the Enid Moose Lodge.

Charlie is survived by his wife Helga, children: Don (Tina) Lavicky, Deborah (Jack) Marshall, Donna (Bobby) Smith, and Desiree (Joe) Highberger; Grandchildren: Elijah (Layne) Lavicky, Nicky Marshall, Tyler Marshall, Jordan Halliburton, Hunter (Jakawan) Klein, Blake Highberger, Breydon (Grace) Renard, Ethan Renard, Noah Lavicky, Mia Lavicky, Lauren (Charles) Belcher, and 6 great-grandchildren. Charlie is also survived by 7 siblings, Louis (Stella) Lavicky, Pat (Larry) Bixler, Betty Chodrick, Nancy (Butch) Buchholz, Vernie Lavicky, Julie (Charlie) Cagle, David (Suzanne) Lavicky and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Frances Schultz, Louise Coleman, Lydia Garis, and Rose Longacre, and brother Harvey Lavicky.

Memorials may be made to Woodring Wall of Honor and Veterans Park with Ladusau-Evans as custodian of the funds.
