He attended Bellview School, one-half mile south of Fairmont, and then graduated from Garber High School in 1951. He attended Phillips University before being drafted into the United States Army, where he served in Germany and Austria from 1954 to 1956. After he returned home, he met the love of his life, Donnis Koehn, and they married July 23, 1961. Phil and Donnis lived in Hillsdale during the first 29 years of marriage. He was employed at Messenger Grain Company, doing maintenance and using his trucks to haul grain from the elevator and farmers’ bins to Enid. He also drove a daily bus route for Hillsdale School (and later for Kremlin after the districts consolidated), in addition to driving the bus to sports events. They moved to the Drummond community after leaving Hillsdale. They enjoyed 54 years together farming and raising cattle.
He is survived by his wife Donnis of the home in Enid; daughter Delena Hukle and husband Grant, of Mantachie, MS; brother Virgil Lang, of Fairmont, OK; and a host of cousins, family and friends.
