Emery Lamunyon

Memorial services for Emery Lamunyon of Waukomis, OK, will be Thursday, July 19, 1012, at 10:00 A.M. at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Pastor Kenneth Wade officiating. . A visitation with the family will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 2012 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. at Ladusau-Evans.

Emery was born on October 7, 1936, in Enid, OK to Emery R and Elna (Benkendorf) Lamunyon. Emery passed away peacefully on July 15, 2012, at Bass Hospital, Enid, OK. Raised on the family farm southeast of Enid and attended Waukomis schools graduating in 1954, Emery then attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, OK, graduating with a degree in animal husbandry in 1958. After graduating from OSU he enlisted in the U.S. Army and met his wife of nearly 52 years, Addie, while stationed at the Fort Huachuca army base in Sierra Vista, AZ. He was honorably discharged in 1963 with the rank of Captain. Emery then went to Fort Wolters in Mineral Wells, TX as a civilian flight instructor from 1964-1966. He worked as a helicopter pilot on the Grand Canyon water line project from 1966-1967, during 1967-1968 he also spend time in flying in Snowqualamie Pass, WA. In 1969 he moved his family to McMinnville, OR and flew for several different companies in Oregon & Alaska. In 1970 he returned to Enid, OK and received a Master’s Degree in Biology from Phillips University and was a student teacher in the Enid School system for a brief period. His love of flying then took him to the Northwest Territories of Canada to battle fires from 1971-1973 and then to the fields of southern California as a crop duster from 1974-1979. He returned home to fly as a crop duster in the Waukomis area in 1980. He gave up his love of flying to take over the family farm after the passing of his father in 1983, working on the farm until the time of his death.

Emery enjoyed raising livestock and farming on the family farm, attending ballgames and activities of his grandchildren, watching RFD TV and OU sports.

Emery is survived by his wife Addie of Waukomis; sons Emery and Sheila of Luther, OK, Jesse and Shari of Waukomis, and Justin and Cindy of Waukomis, and daughter Barbara Nelson and Patrick of Oklahoma City; eight grandchildren: Evan, Cassidy, Erin, Sage and Braxton Lamunyon and Rebecca, Marianne and Abigail Nelson; sister: Leslie Simmons of Ft. Collins, CO, June Calaway and Jane Hubbart of Enid; as well as many other family and friends.

Emery was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Elna, and a brother, David.
