James Lagan

November 30, 1932 — May 1, 2011

Memorial Services for James “Wayne” Lagan, 78, of North Enid, will be Friday, May 6, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastors Scott Whittenburg and Kenneth Wade officiating. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans.

Wayne was born on November 30, 1932 in Enid to Jim and Estelle (Lyday) Lagan, and died May 1, 2011 at St. Mary’s Hospital.

After graduating from North Enid Grade School, Emerson Jr. High, and Enid High School, he attended Phillips University and Coffeeville Junior College. Wayne served in the US Naval Air Service as a radio man and radar navigator for four years during the Korean Conflict at various bases in the South Pacific and Occupied Japan. He married Dorothy Miller, of Kremlin, June, 9, 1956, and they raised their four children in Enid and North Enid. He worked in sales and the oil field most of his life, and he owned his own businesses, The Sandblast Co. and The Pressure Cooker. Later, he obtained his real estate associate license through Missouri Auction School, and worked as an auctioneer. He returned to the oil field until health reasons forced him to retire in 1994.

Wayne loved his garden and sharing it with family, friends, and strangers. He was happiest when working with his tractor, or attending auctions looking for “deals”. His smile was infectious and one couldn’t help but laugh when his boisterous laughter followed it. His generous spirit compelled him to help others, even if it left him without. And he was also generous with advice on a wide range of subjects, solicited or not. Those who knew him well came to rely on that.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; son, Mitch and wife, Cindy of North Enid; daughters, Carol and husband, Hunter Yancey of Charlottesville, VA, Beth and husband, Mark Reed of Enid, and Jennifer and husband, Justin Biggers of North Enid; twin brother, Dr. Duane Lagan of Okeene, and brother, Jimmy Don Lagan of Enid, and 8 grandchildren- Elizabeth, Katie, Ashli, Matt, Chelsea, Beaux, Gage, and Grant; and two great-grandchildren Hailey and Zoey. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran School, where his children and grandchildren attended, or Oklahoma Medical Research for heart or lung research.
